Why Digital Smile Design Matters

Digital Smile Design (DSD) transforms restorative treatment planning from guesswork into a predictable, repeatable process. It bridges the gap between the technician, the clinician, and the patient by making the final result visible before treatment begins.

At Master Design Center, our DSD workflow integrates facial analysis, functional analysis, implant positioning, and material selection into a single coherent plan.

The DSD Workflow at MDC

Step 1: Facial Analysis — We evaluate smile line, lip support, midline, and occlusal plane to establish the esthetic framework.

Step 2: Functional Analysis — CR position, jaw movement, vertical dimension, and phonetics are assessed to ensure the design works biomechanically.

Step 3: 2D-3D Integration — Facial photographs are aligned with intraoral scans to create a virtual patient.

Step 4: Virtual Wax-Up — The proposed restoration is designed digitally, with tooth proportions based on established esthetic principles.

Step 5: Mock-Up Export — A 3D printable mock-up model is exported for in-office try-in, allowing the patient to preview their new smile.

From Mock-Up to Final Restoration

The mock-up serves as both a communication tool and a blueprint. Once the patient approves the mock-up, the same digital design guides the final restoration. This means there are no surprises at delivery.
