The Design Mindset

Crown and bridge design may seem routine, but consistency at scale requires rigorous protocols. At Master Design Center, every crown and bridge case follows a standardized design checklist that covers margin integrity, proximal contacts, occlusion, emergence profile, and connector dimensions.

Material Selection Guide

- Full Contour Zirconia: Posterior crowns and bridges where strength is paramount. Requires adequate occlusal reduction (minimum 1.5mm).

- Lithium Disilicate (e.max): Anterior crowns and veneers where esthetics are critical. Bonds exceptionally well to enamel.

- PFM: Traditional option, still used where metal occlusion is preferred. Requires 2mm occlusal reduction for adequate porcelain thickness.

- Cut-Back Frameworks: For layered ceramics — the framework provides strength, the ceramic provides esthetics.

Key Design Parameters

Margin Adaptation: Our design protocol targets less than 30 microns marginal gap. Proper margin design starts with a clean, well-defined preparation margin in the scan.

Connector Dimensions: For posterior bridges, minimum connector cross-section is 9mm for zirconia. For anterior bridges, 7mm is acceptable. We always err on the side of thicker connectors.

Occlusal Design: We design with mutually protected occlusion in mind. Posterior teeth protect anterior teeth in centric relation; anterior teeth protect posterior teeth in excursive movements.

Emergence Profile: The transition from margin to full contour follows natural tooth anatomy. Overcontouring leads to food impaction and inflammation; undercontouring creates esthetic problems.
